The Gimli Glider Museum Inc. is creating a museum exhibit attraction will enhance local tourism by showcasing the unique Canadian aviation story of the famous Gimli Glider – a Boeing 767 that glided to a safe landing at Gimli Airport in 1983. The Exhibit will feature authentic parts from the aircraft, a theatre area with real aircraft passenger seats and a cockpit mock-up/flight simulator area where visitors can try their hand at flying and landing a 767. Specialty displays will also be developed to highlight Gimli’s rich aviation heritage including the RCAF era, Saunders Aircraft era, Air Cadet flying and Manitoba Air Services water bombers just to name a few.
“Noventis’ generous contribution has made the Flight Simulator display a reality” Bannister stated during the presentation. With a planned opening in summer of 2017, the Exhibit will attract more and new visitors to Gimli for the benefit of local businesses and attractions.
